Ethiopia and the Eastern Christians
- Christianity is the main religion in Ethiopia with 62.8% of the population, 43.5% of whom are Orthodox, 18.6% Protestant and 0.7% Catholic. Muslims, predominantly Sunni, represent almost 33.9% of the population. Other minority religious communities are also present – Animists, Baha’ists, and Jews.
- Ethiopia is the second oldest Christian state after Armenia. The primate of the Ethiopian Catholic Church is His Beatitude Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel.
L’Œuvre d’Orient’s projects in Ethiopia
- L’Œuvre d’Orient has been sending volunteers to Ethiopia since 2019. This is the priory of the community of the Brothers of Saint John in Addis Abeba.
- A school for young blind people that receives financial support from l’Œuvre d’Orient.
